VICOLO CAFE APERITIVO VINO sits quietly along Via Portici in Merano’s bustling old town, striking a balance between a cozy café and a relaxed cocktail bar. This spot quietly caters to a mix of early risers grabbing a simple, well-made breakfast and late afternoon visitors seeking a genuine aperitivo experience with quality drinks.

Morning at VICOLO tends to draw locals and travelers who appreciate a straightforward yet carefully prepared start to the day. The €7 breakfast deal—cappuccino, fresh orange juice, and a buttery, flaky croissant—speaks to its no-fuss approach, with a nod toward classic French pastry traditions rather than local Italian or German versions. Coffee here is more than just fuel; it’s served with attention, sometimes accompanied by a small chocolate treat, adding a subtle touch of care to a brief pause in the day.

Later in the day, the atmosphere shifts toward a calm, welcoming retreat from the surrounding tourist flow. The interior’s intimate, quietly charming setting makes it an ideal spot for relaxed conversations over colorful and well-crafted cocktails like the Aperol Spritz, Rose Prosecco, or a refreshing Weizenbier. The staff’s friendliness and willingness to share their knowledge—whether discussing Mezcal or carefully guiding drink choices—make visitors feel looked after without pretense.

The café’s location on Via Portici places it right in the heart of Merano’s pedestrian zone, making it a convenient stop when wandering the old town’s shops and sights. It’s the kind of place where locals drop in for a neat coffee break or an early evening drink, appreciating the clean, well-kept facilities and the acceptance of credit cards—a practical detail often overlooked in smaller, traditional venues.

Overall, VICOLO CAFE APERITIVO VINO suits those looking for a quietly refined spot without the fuss: from a simple yet satisfying morning pastry and coffee to a laid-back aperitivo with knowledgeable and genuine service. Its unhurried pace and careful touches underscore its role as both a daily routine and a casual meeting point in Merano’s charming historic streets.

Stopped at VICOLO Café Aperitivo Vino in Merano just for a quick coffee, but it turned out to be exceptional—rich, perfectly brewed, and served with genuine warmth. They also offered a small cioccolatino on the side, a delightful touch that elevated the simple stop into a memorable break. The toilet was impressively clean and well-maintained, a rare plus in busy spots, and they accept credit cards even for a single coffee, making it hassle-free.

Very cozy place, a calm oasis within the busy old town of Meran. The kindest service combined with an excellent choice and quality of drinks!

Went here a couple of days ago for drinks. The bar is located in a super cute and atmospheric spot in the middle of Meran. They serve all kinds of alcoholic and non alcoholic beverages. The staff was beyond friendly and incredible helpful in helping us make our decision. The drinks are so colorful and delicious that we simply had to order a second round. When I come back to Meran, this will definitely on my list again.

Great Place on many levels. 1st ,they have great croissants and this is what i was looking for that morning in Meran, not an Italian or a German croissant but a French layered butter croissant, and they have it! the coffee was very good and the friendliness of the staff sealed it. We are returning to test the barman skills as we had a long discussion about Mezcal with him, which is not common in Italy. Also their location in a small little alley near the castle with a view of the gondola ( ski) is super cosy. great for bfast or a drink before dinner! Thank you
